The exact times of occurrence of agriculture in the Andijan region is not established, but in the late bronze epoch here were already agricultural oases. A history of the "Chust" tribes which part of them lived in the territory of modern Andijan region goes back almost to 8-7 centuries B.C and lasts 4 century. This period is characterized by development of the agriculture, cattle breeding, and also recycling of bronze. In those times people of this region used to grow grain, vegetables, fruits.
The cotton as industrial oriented culture became and as wide spread growing plant of the agriculture after domination of Central Asia by Russia s at the end of 19-centuries. In the 20th century developed grain growing, cotton growing and , melon growing etc.
Today agriculture area is used the region is about 251,9 га., from which 197,5 га make tillegeble ground .Basic agricultural crops are cotton and wheat. 
The agriculture is a powerful part of economy of the region. Agriculture shares 56 % of GDP of the region. 
In the region acts 12 interconnected farms, 4 state farms, 192 shirkat( also one type of farms),
2 rented farms, 21 privatized farms, 47 private farms. 3458 farms are set up. None government sector shares 98,8% of the agricultural products were produced in the region.
In 2001 cotton were planted in 109,3 thousand hectares of tillegeble lands, the crop of a cotton has made - 381,7 thousand ton, or the average productivity made of 3,49 tons from each hectare is achieved. Today cotton growers of the Andijan region having introduced advanced technology in cultivation of a cotton under the polyethylene film they could reduce not only the period of maturing but they could either increase a crop productivity of cotton . 
Grain has occupied 86,3 thousand hectares of tillegeble grounds a crop has made 604,9 thousand tons, an average productivity was of 6,99 tons per each hectare is achieved. 
Potatoes and the vegetables were planted in the more than 17,9 thousand hectares of grounds and the average productivity average has made of a potatoes of 6,56 tons from each hectare, vegetables of 28,64 tons from each hectare.
For melon growing were allocated 0,5 thousand hectares of land where is achieved productivity 8,4 thousand tons, that makes 1,68 from each hectare.

Meat 55,9 thousand tons
Milk 339,0 thousand tons

Within independence in the region is paid special attention to introduction of achievements of a science in agriculture and development of new technologies. Today in the region is already existing Institutes of seed and grain selection and leguminous cultures. Branches of Republic scientific research Institutes of cotton growing , melon growing, grape growing and horticulture etc. 
Total agricultural production in the region for 1 half-year of 2002 has made 164,9 billion Soum , including production of plant growing for 122,1billion Soum, production of animal industries 42,8 billion Soum. 
On July 1, 2002 iin the all fields of the agriculture produced 50,8 fruits, 26,7 thousand tons of meat, 118 thousand tons of milk, 31,6 million peace of eggs 415,2 thousand tons of a grain, 50,4 thousand tons of a potatoes 366,7 tons of wool and 2890 tons cocoons.
